Sophomore Saturdays

It's the beginning of a new year: my Sophomore year of High School. I've decided to start a blog that I update on Saturdays, for one: I never remember to blog. And two: it has a nice ring to it. I'm going into this year with an open mind and a willing heart. I'm looking forward to experiences with new friends and old. I'll be updating what's happening in my Sophomore life every week. I hope you enjoy my life as much as I do. :)

I started school this past Thursday, and I couldn't have been more nervous. In my school, you're officially in High School when you're a Sophomore. That means: float competitions, EOI testing, high school sports (big deal in our school), and last but not least...High School relationships.

Don't get me wrong, I love all of those things, but I am looking forward most to the new experiences I have to influence people and show them the love of Christ. When you get in an environment like High School, it's really hard to keep focus on what is really important. For instance: helping someone in need, telling people what you know about the one who Saved you and His Grace (Jesus, duh), and understanding the true purpose for your life. But, I know that I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.

I've just been getting the feel of things. We've been in school for two days and so far I haven't had (many) problems. My sweet car is a 1973 VW Beetle that is turquoise. I've picked Abbey up both days and we've only stalled out once (darn those stop signs on hills.) Needless to say, I going to put the petal to the medal from now on. Our Algebra 2 teacher gave us homework on the first night. All I have to say is: start out like you can hold out (both the teacher and I.) One of the classes I'm most terrified for is Biology 1. Mostly because I don't speak the foreign language that is Science. I'm going to do my best not to have a meltdown this year, but I'm not making any promises. My favorite class, I imagine, will be History. Our teacher, who's a coach first and foremost, seems incredibly rad and down to earth. He started the year by telling us life stories, talking about old girlfriends, and making sure we know he's as much business as he is play time. My English 2 and Spanish 2 teacher is the same person. She is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever known and I appreciate how patient she is. Even though I know our classmates probably make her want to say bad words. My sixth hour is Yearbook, which I am super excited about. I found out that I get to be Co-Editor this year, and I am absolutely thrilled. But, my most favorite class will probably always be Band. Marching band is a pretty big deal in our school, and with marching band there's a flag corp. I'm in the flag corp for the second year in a row and I love it so much. Some people like to make fun (haters gonna hate), but I really enjoy being a part of the team.

Last night we had a back to school party with all of our Sophomore friends. My cousin/friend Abbey just returned to Public School after being home schooled for two years, so she decided to throw a back to school bash. We went grocery shopping and had to put all the bags in the front of my car. All of us went swimming and pigged out on party food until we couldn't any more. Once it started to storm, we all gravitated inside to watch a movie. We decided on a movie called "Frozen" which, at the time, no one knew was a thriller. I spent half the movie in a different room because I don't do those movies well. After everyone left, the girls stayed the night and we had a rip roaring good time.

Today, I've been at our new church building helping clean up the place. Our Pastors, James and Lori Roach, have decided to take us on a new adventure to start a new church here and I'm so excited for what God has for this area. It's kind of crazy the way things have worked out with this church. All of the congregation so far is related to me, which makes it fun. But, I have a feeling that with this new building it's going to grow outside of that group. I'm so blessed.

I hope you enjoy reading my days as a Sophomore, because I'm sure I'm going to love living them.

Until next time,
Marielle
